Meera

The story of Meera is extremely popular, connected to the history of Rajasthan located in the north-west of India. Her story depicts her pure and constant love for Krishna. Meera was the youngest daughter of a king. All her sisters were married. One day at the age of eight, when she went to see the marriage procession, she asked her mother, “Who will be my bridegroom?” Her mother gave her an idol of Krishna and said, this is your bridegroom. Little did the mother know that Meera would take her joke to heart and accept Krishna as her husband. Meera lovingly picked up the idol and went to her room. After that she started worshiping Krishna day and night. She used to talk, eat, sit and do everything with Krishna. She used to dance with Sri Krishna in trance.
After some time, her parents got her married in a royal family. She told her husband about her complete love and devotion for Shri Krishna and said, “You are not my husband. My parents have selected you for me but I am already married to Krishna.”. Her husband, understanding her immense devotion, continued to love her. Even after marriage, she used to live in the palace in an ordinary attire and she could see Krishna all around. She used to work in the remembrance of Shri Krishna, singing bhajans and dancing continuously. Her family members who cared about the traditions, started torturing Meera to fulfil their desires. When they could not succeed, they sent her a cup of poison. Meera knew that this cup was of poison, she still drank it. The story goes further that she loved Krishna so much that even that cup of poison turned into nectar. One day when Meera was rejoicing in the memory of Shri Krishna, suddenly Krishna appeared and took her with him. The soul left the body and went away.

Spiritual Significance: – Meera’s love for God was infinite. Mira’s life is a testament to the fact that even the most unfavorable situation can turn into favorable one if there is selfless love and faith in God. However, Meera was a devotee of Lord Krishna without having the true and complete knowledge of God. Today in the Sangam yuga, God Shiva is imparting the complete Godly knowledge to the Brahmin children who can use this knowledge to become deity Krishna themselves. Meera saw Krishna in trance but Baba says that Baba’s children will practically play and dance with Krishna in the soon forthcoming Golden World (Sat Yuga).
